About Sunflower City
Sunflower City grew from a small research project conducted at the corner of 43rd and Greenwood in 2012. The research was looking at growing a crop that both remediates toxins and heavy metals from soil while also growing oil seed that can be used for clean energy production. But it was the response from the neighborhood that was the most important aspect of the project and which has given meaning to the work of Sunflower City. Infusing natural beauty into the urban landscape is the primary work of Sunflower City.
Sunflower City is a 501(c)(3) NFP organization.

Beauty, Nature and the City
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.
Eleonora Duse
The responsibility of our society is to celebrate and to remind each other of our inherent beauty, of our self-worth and of our capacity to love. This is the most pressing work to be done by all who live in Chicago. To remember this will lead this city to support, nurture and protect life.
